Our Mission
H.E.R.O. (Healing • Empathy • Redemption • Oasis) Nurturing Center is a holistic nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals and communities across North America, the Caribbean, the African Diaspora, and the world. We focus on supporting the human spirit and the environment through innovative, grassroots, community-based initiatives.
Our Story
Founded by Judith Foster, H.E.R.O. began as a movement to restore balance and create spaces of healing. Judith also launched the U.S. Forest Initiative, which called for bold action to integrate nature into healthcare and inspired legislation such as Bill S.791 – Making Nature Prescriptive. This groundbreaking bill would allow medical and mental health providers to prescribe time in nature as a reimbursable form of care, and require insurers to cover it.
